Painting for Peace for Ferguson at the Stratford Library

Today we had the pleasure and great fortune to be able to meet Carol Klein,  the author of the book Painting for Peace in Ferguson. At the end of June, this book was given to every family in Stratford who has an elementary school age child. It was generously paid for by Miss Soto's Literacy Legacy. The Soto family worked with the author and Stratford Library and other sponsors to bring her and many of the actual paintings featured in the book up to Stratford. This is the first time that these pieces of art have left the St. Louis area! It is a real coup for Stratford, and a testament to the amazing work that the Soto family has been doing with their foundation. Hearts of Hope has had the privilege of spending some time and painting our Tiny Treasure hearts with them last fall, and they are truly a force!

Yesterday, the author read the book to the children and took them on a tour of the pieces of art that were on display in the library and the Baldwin Center. Last night,  she hosted  community leaders and townspeople in a Community Conversation about how Ferguson produced art out of the ashes and what it means to towns like Stratford.

Today, she discussed the art of Ferguson. After the PowerPoint and question and answer session, we pulled out our tables all set up and invited all in attendance to paint hearts with us. All of the hearts painted today will be sent down to Ferguson. We are in discussion with Carol about the hearts possible be put on display in a local art gallery for a short time period before possibly being given out at the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center. We are so grateful to be included in this wonderful event.

We are proud to have been a part of this week's collaboration of Painting for Peace in Ferguson.
