Yesterday, I spent the late afternoon with Diane Demetriades and her Art students in the Continuing Ed Program painting Hearts for Parkland. These young adults are full of such artistic talent and were a delight to paint with. They are a group of people who are working hard to obtain their high school diplomas, not a GED. The conversation was easy and watching them create their works of art was so special. They are an amazing group of young adults who I know can do anything they put their minds to...getting their diplomas is just the first step of many great things for them!

Elijah wanted everyone to understand the meaning behind the painting of his heart. He painted the sides black to signify darkness and despair. The light colors inside signify Hope. He said that even though you might be surrounded by darkness and despair, keep hope in your heart. Keep hope alive in your heart...hope will always win over the darkness.
